Beth Carlson

Beth Carlson is a reporter for KMBC 9 News, joining the Kansas City newsroom in 2026 after reporting for Hearst Television sister station KETV NewsWatch 7 in Omaha, Nebraska.

A Midwest native, Beth is excited to continue serving local communities through trusted, community-focused journalism. She believes some of the most meaningful stories are those that highlight the people making a difference and the positive impact they have on those around them.

Before arriving at KMBC 9 News, Beth reported in Omaha, where she covered everything from breaking news and major snowstorms to Nebraska football and severe weather, including reporting from the path of multiple tornadoes. Her experience covering rapidly changing weather and developing news has strengthened her commitment to delivering accurate, timely information when it matters most.

Beth grew up in the Chicago suburbs and discovered her passion for storytelling at an early age. She graduated with honors from the University of Missouri School of Journalism, earning a Bachelor of Journalism with minors in Spanish and Political Science.

While at Missouri, Beth spent three years reporting and anchoring for KOMU 8 News, the NBC affiliate in Columbia. She also produced a documentary exploring journalism's portrayal in film, traveling across the country to interview some of the profession's most respected voices, including Dan Rather, Bob Woodward, and the journalists whose investigative reporting inspired the Academy Award-winning film Spotlight.

Beth's introduction to Hearst Television came during an internship at WISN 12 in Milwaukee, where she contributed to coverage of major national events, including multiple presidential campaign rallies and the Republican National Convention.

Outside the newsroom, Beth enjoys recreating family recipes, attending live theater and concerts, and following Chicago sports — especially cheering on the Chicago White Sox.
