Preparations for the 2026 FIFA World Cup are beginning to take shape. FIFA announced the schedule of matches on Sunday afternoon.
Kansas City will host six matches – four Group Stage matches, a Round of 32 match, and a Quarterfinal. The first game in KC will be on June 16, 2026.
That World Cup quarterfinal will be historic, as the first ever to be played in the Midwest. The other cities hosting a quarterfinal match are Los Angeles, Miami, and Boston.
“This is really a sign of years of outstanding work. It's going to bring even more jobs to Kansas City. It's going to bring more investment to Kansas City. International eyeballs on television. Visitors from around the world,” Mayor Quinton Lucas said after the announcement. “Frankly, this is something that is a true game changer for Kansas City at a time when things are already going well.”
The opening match will be played in Mexico City at the Estadio Azteca on June 11, 2026. The final match will be played on July 19, 2026, at MetLife Stadium in New Jersey.
