Remembering Lisa Lopez-Galvan, the woman killed in shooting at Union Station
The brother and sister of Lisa Lopez-Galvan, who died in the mass shooting at the Chiefs Rally Wednesday, are sharing their memories of her.
"Lisa was an amazing individual. We have a joke among our family. She was the youngest of four children, four siblings. She was the cool aunt, and nothing against my sister, but our nieces and nephews would rather hang out with her than us. And she was just always very happy, very giving. Took a shirt off her back to help any stranger," said Beto Lopez, Lisa's brother.
"She brought joy and fun with her just personality and always made sure we had music. That's who my sister was. We want the community to learn from her life, learn to love, learn to give, learn to be respectful, learn to be here for one another," said Carme Lopez-Murguia, Lisa's sister.
Lisa, her husband Mike, their son Mark, 22, and their daughter Adriana, 18, were all at the Chiefs rally Wednesday.
There's a block in west Kansas City where there are 9 or 10 homes owned by the Lopez Family, and all of them are a short walk to Union Station.
Many family members were there.
Lisa was fatally shot; her son Mark was also shot, but he's recovering from his injury.
Her cousin's two daughters, ages 8 and 10, were also shot but are recovering.
Patrick and Britney Mahomes visited them at Children's Mercy Hospital on Thursday.
"Our families are so appreciative and respect the Mahomes family. Patrick and his wife, you know, trying to touch our family. I think for any child, when Mr. Mahomes, with the pedigree that he has as a ballplayer, comes to visit you, I think there's going to be some excitement. But we also know that he's very human as well. And for him to touch local people, real people in this community, I think that speaks a lot for the character that he is," Beto Lopez said.
A GoFundMe page for Lisa's family by 5 p.m. Friday evening had raised more than $300,000.
Taylor Swift donated $100,000 of that money.
"I've never met her personally. From what I read about her and have heard about her is that she's a very giving and very loving individual. And in many ways, it's very fitting because my sister was like that, you know, very giving and always wanting to help others and a positive mindset. And I've told some relatives recently that if they ever met, I have no doubt that they would be good friends because they had very similar personalities," said Beto Lopez.
Two juveniles now face charges related to the mass shooting that killed Lisa and wounded 22 other people.
"They need to dig deep in their hearts and hold themselves accountable. They can do it. They may be underage, but they know what's right and wrong," said Carmen Lopez-Murguia.
Ron Moore never met Lisa.
On Friday, the Youngstown, Ohio, man finished a sketch of Lisa after working on it for twelve hours.
He showed us if you look closely at Lisa's eyes, he drew tiny hearts.
"That's my way of showing love to the family and that I can only imagine how much love she had for all of them," Moore said.
"Seeing it for the first time, it's beyond touching," said Beto Lopez.
Moore is sending the sketch to Lisa's family as a gift.
"You don't have to have ever met people to love them," he said.
