Union Station mass shooting trials could be delayed; 2027 trial date set in Chiefs parade case
Jackson County prosecutors are seeking delays against two defendants charged in the February 2024 mass shooting at Union Station following the Kansas City Chiefs’ Super Bowl parade.
A judge has approved a continuance in Terry Young's case, canceling his March 2, 2026, trial date and setting a new pretrial conference for April 30, 2026, at which a new trial date will be scheduled.
Prosecutors requested the delay, and the defense did not object.
Prosecutors have also requested a delay in the Jan. 12, 2026, trial of Dominic Miller.
That request remains pending.
Young and Miller are charged with second-degree murder, unlawful use of a weapon, and two counts of armed criminal action in the shooting that killed Lisa Lopez-Galvan.
Court records say the shooting followed an argument between two groups at the end of the rally.
Prosecutors allege Lyndell Mays was the first to pull a gun and that Miller fired the fatal shot.
On Tuesday, a judge set a March 29, 2027 trial date for Mays. That move came after a request from Mays' attorneys.
Mays' attorney wrote in the filing that dozens of witnesses and multiple law enforcement agencies are involved, and more time is needed to review evidence and conduct depositions.
