The Hearst Television Data Team is tracking measles cases and outbreaks from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Measles, also called rubeola, is an airborne rash illness that can sometimes lead to death.

Two doses of the measles, mumps and rubella (MMR) vaccine are 97% effective at preventing measles. People are protected through herd immunity when at least 95% of the population is vaccinated, but the number has been declining for several years. During the 2024-25 school year, just 92.5% of kindergartners were vaccinated, according to the CDC.

Measles was eliminated from the United States in 2000, according to the CDC. In 2025, 2,242 cases were reported — the most in a single year since 1991.

This page and the data will update every Friday when the CDC updates its data.

Weekly measles cases from the CDC are reported by the date the rash began. Data is preliminary. Case totals for prior weeks may change after the week they are reported.
