Charlotte Homecoming Weekend Set for O'Reilly Auto Parts Series Stars

CHARLOTTE, N.C. —

The NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series heads to Charlotte Motor Speedway this weekend with momentum building after a thrilling race at Dover.

Corey Day continued his breakout season by charging to victory last week, using the outside lane late in the race to get around Justin Allgaier and secure his second win of the year. Day now owns victories at both Talladega and Dover this season, and his aggressive move to the front immediately created comparisons to last year’s Charlotte finish.

In that race, William Byron used a nearly identical outside pass to drive around Allgaier in the closing laps for the win. Charlotte Motor Speedway consistently produces some of the best racing on the schedule, especially with multiple grooves opening up as the race develops.

Allgaier is expected to once again contend near the front as the series returns to one of NASCAR’s most important tracks. Track position, tire management and long green-flag runs are all expected to play major roles throughout the night.

UPDATE: Qualifying and practice for Saturday’s race was canceled due to weather, and the starting lineup will instead be set according to NASCAR rules.

Dr. Patrick Staropoli enters Charlotte Motor Speedway coming off a 21st-place finish at Dover Motor Speedway last week after starting 28th and earning 16 points in the race. Based on the rulebook, Staropoli will start P23 for Big Machine Racing in the #48 Car. BMR is a promotional partner with KCWE this season.

Charlotte Motor Speedway is also paying tribute throughout Memorial Day weekend to two-time NASCAR Cup Series champion Kyle Busch, who died Thursday at the age of 41 following a severe illness. Busch leaves behind one of the most successful careers in NASCAR history, with victories across all three national touring series and a lasting impact on the sport both on and off the track.

Live coverage begins Saturday at 3:00 p.m. CT on Kansas City’s Own® KCWE and The CW.
