The NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series heads to Long Pond, Pennsylvania, today for a return to Pocono Raceway, one of the most distinctive and demanding stops on the schedule.
Known as the Tricky Triangle, Pocono's three-turn layout presents challenges unlike any other track in the series. Drivers and teams must find the right balance to navigate each corner effectively, making track position, strategy, and execution critical throughout the event.
Justin Allgaier arrives at Pocono with momentum after another strong performance at Nashville. The veteran earned his third career victory at the Tennessee track, continuing an impressive season and further cementing his reputation as one of the series' top competitors. He'll start near the front of the field after qualifying fourth for today's race.
Brandon Jones claimed the pole position, giving him the top starting spot for the battle around the 2.5-mile oval.
The list of Pocono winners reads like a collection of NASCAR's biggest stars. Champions, future Hall of Famers, and many of the sport's most accomplished drivers have celebrated in Victory Lane at the Pennsylvania facility, highlighting just how difficult it is to conquer the track.
Track conditions were a major topic today. Several drivers described Pocono Raceway as slick, and the challenging surface contributed to a number of incidents during on-track sessions. Some longtime observers noted they could not remember the last time they had seen so many issues during both practice and qualifying at the Tricky Triangle.
Big Machine Racing driver Dr. Patrick Staropoli qualified 27th for today's race after his No. 48 Chevrolet spun during practice. BMR is a promotional partner with KCWE this season.
Qualifying also proved eventful, with three cars crashing during time trials as teams searched for speed around the unique three-corner layout.
With Allgaier carrying momentum, Jones leading the field to green, and track conditions expected to keep drivers on edge throughout the afternoon, another memorable chapter could be added to Pocono's storied history.
Live coverage begins today at 2:30 p.m. on Kansas City’s Own® KCWE and The CW.
