The NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series arrives in Southern California Saturday for one of the most anticipated events of the season, as drivers prepare to tackle a brand-new street course surrounding Naval Base Coronado in San Diego.
With a new track, unfamiliar surroundings and one of the hottest drivers in the series coming off another trip to Victory Lane, San Diego is set to deliver a memorable chapter in the 2026 season.
Few competitors enter the weekend with more momentum than Justin Allgaier. The veteran driver picked up another victory at Pocono Raceway, overcoming a difficult afternoon by taking advantage of a late restart opportunity and racing his way to his fifth win of the season.
The victory pushed Allgaier's career total to 33 and added to a list that now includes wins at 21 different tracks. He'll look to continue his hot streak on a track that presents a brand-new challenge for every team in the field.
The event is expected to provide a unique atmosphere, combining waterfront scenery, military support and the challenges that come with a temporary street circuit. Drivers and teams will be navigating unfamiliar territory, making adaptability a key factor throughout the weekend.
Pocono proved challenging for Big Machine Racing, with Dr. Patrick Staropoli battling adversity during the race. The team now turns its attention to a vastly different challenge as the series heads to the new San Diego street course.
UPDATE: Staropoli qualified for P28 on row 14 for Saturday's race.
