KC Diamonds secure home opener win in front of thousands of fans
The Kansas City Diamonds dazzled in their home opener at Legends Field, taking home a win in front of a big crowd of supporters.
Professional women's softball is finally here in Kansas City, and the first home game in franchise history was a success.
"I'm just in awe and so grateful for all the people who are coming out to support us, and I'm really looking forward to laying it all out on the field," said Leah Boggs, KC Diamonds catcher.
More than 5,000 people cheered on the Diamonds on Wednesday in their 5-3 win over the Florida Vibe.
For many organization leaders and players, the team's mission is much bigger than wins: It's about uplifting the sport and inspiring young players.
"Softball is growing so quickly, and I think that when little girls are my age, I want them to have more opportunity than I have right now," said Savanah Henley, pitcher. "And so that's what we're all trying to do out here. We're trying to grow the game."
"We have girls that want to give back, that love playing softball and fully understand what it feels like to be the little girl that was watching. And so, we know it's our responsibility to put on a show," said Allie Skaggs, infielder.
