The NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series heads back to oval racing this Fourth of July weekend as Chicagoland Speedway returns to the schedule for the first time since 2019.
The series arrives in Joliet, Illinois, after another standout performance from Shane van Gisbergen, who once again showcased his road-course talent with a commanding victory at Sonoma Raceway. After several seasons of racing through the streets of downtown Chicago, the focus now shifts to one of NASCAR's most popular intermediate ovals.
Chicagoland Speedway has long been a favorite among drivers thanks to its aging pavement, multiple racing grooves and tire wear that reward patience and smart strategy. The challenging surface often produces exciting racing as teams search for speed over long green-flag runs.
The last time The NASCAR O'Reilly Auto Parts Series visited Chicagoland Speedway, Cole Custer captured the victory in 2019. Now competing full-time in the NASCAR Cup Series, Custer returns hoping to add another win at the Illinois oval.
Weather forced NASCAR to cancel qualifying and set Saturday's starting lineup according to the series rule book to accommodate a rescheduled practice session. Big Machine Racing driver Patrick Staropoli will start 27th. BMR is a promotional partner with KCWE this season.
Live race coverage begins Saturday at 3:30 p.m. on Kansas City’s Own® KCWE and The CW.
