KANSAS CITY, Mo. —

The Aug. 4 primary election is just a few weeks away, and this year it's worth paying extra attention.

While primary elections determine which candidates will represent each political party in November, this year voters will also decide major statewide issues.

In Missouri, four proposed constitutional amendments address everything from funding state parks and conservation to requiring that Jackson County assessors are elected instead of appointed.

Voters will also consider changes to the citizen initiative process and a proposal to phase out Missouri's individual income tax.

In Kansas, the race to succeed Gov. Laura Kelly is one of the state's most significant elections in years.

Voters will also decide whether Kansas Supreme Court justices should continue to be appointed or instead be elected.

No matter your political views, an informed vote is a stronger vote.

Between now and Election Day, KMBC 9 News will provide balanced coverage of the candidates, the issues and what's at stake.

We hope it helps you make the decision that's right for you.
