Andy Reid sees progress from Chiefs offensive line, Benson to play left tackle Friday
Training camp and preseason have been a busy and active one in terms of shuffling on the Chiefs' offensive line.
That won't change in Friday's preseason finale against Seattle.
Chiefs head coach Andy Reid said Kahlil Benson will likely see some time at left tackle against Seattle. Benson, who has played guard and right tackle, has not played left tackle yet.
“Those are valuable reps for him,” Reid said. “He’ll be over at left tackle this week, and we’ll see how he does.”
Starting left tackle Josh Simmons will not go this week for the team.
This week, the Chiefs added another lineman by trading for New York Giants lineman Joshua Ezeudu, who has played both guard and tackle.
"Andy Heck knows him because of his sons," he said. "One played with him, then one coached him. So, he’s a big kid that has got good feet; he’s smart. He can add either a starting position or depth, and he plays either guard or tackle. So, we’ll just see how he does when he gets here and gets in to assess him.”
Reid said he's seen improvement from the line and also singled out Mike Caliendo for having a good camp.
"But I like the way the young guys have progressed," he said. "I think Caliendo, who’s been here- now he’s probably not considered a young guy anymore, but he’s had a good camp, so that’s a positive, too, in there.”
