KMBC 9 News ReporterEric Graves is a Missouri native and reporter for KMBC 9 News, covering stories across the Kansas City metro and beyond. Born and raised in Lee’s Summit, Eric is proud to report in his hometown — close to the community, family and friends that shaped him.
As a journalist, Eric strives to be fair, accurate and compassionate, focusing on storytelling that informs and connects the Kansas City region.
Before joining KMBC 9 News, Eric worked in Indianapolis, where he covered breaking news and major events across Indiana. He reported from the scenes of multiple deadly tornadoes, spoke with survivors of the Greenwood Park Mall mass shooting and produced in-depth coverage of the Delphi double-murder investigation. His reporting earned him multiple award nominations, including recognition for his live coverage.
Eric’s favorite moments in Indianapolis include dozens of days covering the Indianapolis 500, an improbable 2025 NBA Finals run by the Indiana Pacers and the 2024 U.S. Olympic Swim Trials at Lucas Oil Stadium.
Before that, Eric lived in Huntsville, Alabama, where he worked as both an anchor and reporter in one of the South’s fastest-growing news markets — a city known as the Rocket City for its space-industry roots.
Eric is a proud graduate of the University of Missouri School of Journalism — the first and one of the finest journalism schools in the nation.
A lifelong Lee’s Summit Tiger, he graduated from Lee’s Summit High School and Pleasant Lea Middle School, proudly maintaining his local roots.
Away from the newsroom, Eric enjoys spending time with his wife, their dachshund and their families. He’s an enthusiastic fan of the Kansas City Chiefs, Kansas City Royals and Missouri Tigers, and being back home means he’s planning to attend plenty of games.
If you see Eric around town, don’t hesitate to say hello — at 6’6” and red-haired, he’s hard to miss! You can reach him anytime at Eric.Graves@hearst.com.
