Urban League launches Operation Rebuild to fix 43 homes in Kansas City’s Prospect Corridor
A new initiative is bringing much-needed repairs to 43 homes in Kansas City’s Prospect Corridor, thanks to a $1.4 million investment from Jackson County.
On Friday morning, the Urban League of Greater Kansas City launched Operation Rebuild, a program aimed at repairing owner-occupied homes in one of the city’s historically underserved communities.
Some of the planned repairs include driveway improvements, roof replacements, and new windows.
"We're excited to launch this program today, which is a combined effort of workforce development, neighborhood preservation and economic mobility," said Gwendolyn Grant, president and CEO of the Urban League of Greater Kansas City.
The initiative’s primary goals are to preserve homeownership, stabilize neighborhoods, and improve property values in the area. Additionally, Operation Rebuild will provide hands-on construction experience for graduates of the Project Pathways Urban Construction Pre-Apprenticeship Program, which supports justice-involved or unemployed adults.
The Urban League aims to complete all 43 home repair projects by December.
